Dutch sailorman to arrive in Manhattan after a 30,000 miles journey for cancer research

New York, April 15th , for immediate release – Dutch Sailorman, Luc Overtoom will be arriving in New York City after he started a world journey with his 41ft sailing yacht ‘Cardo’ from Amsterdam, The Netherlands in July 2014.

Mr. Overtoom will be formally welcomed by H.E. Mr. Rob de Vos, Consul General of The Netherlands Consulate General in New York on Sunday, April 24th at 11:30 AM at Pier 16 of the South Street Seaport Museum in Manhattan.

Mr. Overtoom and his wife Trudy had previously planned this trip for years, but it was not to be: Trudy died in 2011 after a 14-year battle against breast-cancer.

During that battle she received tremendous care and support from the VUmc Cancer Center Amsterdam (CCA) team of the Free University Medical Center in Amsterdam and especially of the world-renowned Prof. Bob Pinedo.

Now, Mr. Overtoom, is raising funds for Prof. Pinedo’s successor, Prof. Geert Kazemier with the campaign ‘Setting-Sail for Cancer’.

After the welcoming ceremony, Mr. Overtoom, will join the Dutch community, celebrating the birthday of the Dutch King, Willem-Alexander of The Netherlands, an event at The South Street Seaport Museum, 12 Fulton Street in Manhattan.
